viva Las Vegas! (part 1)

Last week I spent 6 days in Las Vegas attending the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) conference and trade show.  Woo Hoo!  …well, except for having the stomach flu for the first few days… that definitely didn’t fall in the “woo hoo!” category.  Blech.  However, I think I did fare better than my wonderful (love you honey!) husband who was at home with FOUR flu-sick kids.  I was sitting in the plane getting ready to take off for Vegas and I called home to check in only to find out that the little ones had started hurling.  I have a feeling I’m going to be kissing up to my husband for months. :)

What a great opportunity though – to take classes from some of the most talented and respected photographers in the world, look at hundreds of new products and companies and get to know a few of my fellow photographers better.

The second night there we did a senior shoot on the strip with 5 gorgeous local high school girls.  Now, I will be the first to admit that shooting in the PITCH BLACK of night with only neon lights for your available light is not my specialty.  But stretching to see what you can do (and learning why you should keep your day job – ha, ha) is always a fun challenge.  Here are a few from that night…

And all of the photographers in the back row … be kind – we had been trying to keep up with teenagers for the last two hours!  Usually I complain that the images on this blog have to be so little – but right now I’m very OK with that.

This is the great Marianne Drenthe of Marmalade Photography.  Now I know what I look like to my clients – just exchange her Nikon for my Canon.

We did take a few photos around the hotel that first day.  Here is a ceiling in the Bellagio…

I’ll share more later, so stay tuned…
